Los Angeles.—Asa Keyes, d istrict Attorney, In an accusation which ac companied an indictm ent returned against him by the bos Angeles coun ty grand Jury, was charged with ac cepting "the sum ot ,10,000'' from Jacob Berman, alias Jack B ennett, on o r about July 6, 1928, in completion of an agreem ent by Keyes to obtain the dismissal, or, falling that, the ac quittal, of Bennett, in the Julian Pete stock overissue trial earlier in the year. Keyes also was accused of accept ing a gold or platinum w rist watch, valued at approxim ately 2620, from Ed Rosenberg, another of the Julian de fendants, between June 24, 1927, when ten defendants were indicted In the Julian Pete stock overissue fraud, and May 23, 1928, when the trials ended In th eir acquittals. The "accusation" asked tor the re moval of Keyes from office. The o thers Indicted are: Jacob Ber man, alias Jack Bennett, known as the financial "w izard" of Julian Pete; Ed and Jack Kosenberg. who with Ber man were acquitted of felony charges In connection with the stock scandal A. I. Lasker, a broker, indicted but never tried for his alleged connection; Ben and David Getzoff, father and son, respectively, accused of acting as "go- betw eens" in their Spring street tailor shop, and Charles Reimer, investigator for the d istrict atto rn ey ’s office. The annual meeting of the Oregon Association of County A ssessors was held In Salem the first of this week. P rescott. Arlz.—F ragm ents of an ah plane and bits ot the bodies of tw o men scattered along the side of Crook canyon in the Bradshaw m ountains, 23 miles south of here, were positive- ly Identified as the Y ankee Doodle monoplane and its pilot, C aptain C B. It was believed by m em bers of the sheriff's searching party, which found the strew n wreckage th a t the craft had struck the canyon side with a trem endous force and th at the heavy load of gasoline exploded with the im pact. The open parachutes of the pilot and the passenger indicated th at the pair, realizing th eir plight too late, had made an effort to jum p. T heir landing flares had also been released. The Yankee Doodle took off from Mines field, Los Angeles, for a con tinuous Journey from the Pacific to the Atlantic. W hile the pilot, Collyer, had stated that pressing business engagem ents dem anded his presence there, he ad m itted th at he would attem pt to b et ter Goebel's m ark of less than 19 hours for the trip. Reduced prices of livestock, wool, corn and potatoes were chiefly respon sible for the decline, It was stated.
